A 4,000-mile 1984 Chevrolet K30 dump truck heads to Greensboro as collector interest in vintage work trucks continues to grow.

A former Long Island fire truck is headed to GAA Classic Cars' November auction with a new assignment: finding out just how much collectors are willing to pay for a low-mileage squarebody dump truck.

This 1984 Chevrolet K30 is powered by a 454-cubic-inch V8 paired with an automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, and dual rear wheels. Finished in factory black, the truck reportedly has just 4,000 miles.

According to the auction listing, the K30 retains its original sheet metal and underwent a restoration in 2019, when a polished aluminum dump bed was installed. The owner reports 4,000 miles, although the title is mileage exempt.

Work Trucks Are Bringing Serious Money

Once considered strictly utilitarian, vintage dump trucks, flatbeds, and heavy-duty pickups are finding an enthusiastic collector audience.

Recent auction results tell the story.

A 1997 Ford F-350 dump truck with just 1,584 miles sold for approximately $85,000.

Another 1997 Ford F-350 XLT Power Stroke dually dump 4×4, showing 22,000 miles, brought $50,000 on Bring a Trailer in June.

Flatbeds have also been attracting serious bids. A Cummins-swapped 1985 Ford F-350 bullnose flatbed sold for $110,000 at Mecum Kissimmee in 2026.

Even older workhorses are getting attention. A 1966 Dodge Power Wagon W300 flatbed brought $35,000 at Mecum in July 2024.

What's This Squarebody Worth?

With its big-block 454, four-wheel drive, dual rear wheels, former fire-service history, and reported low mileage, this K30 checks several boxes that have attracted collectors to vintage heavy-duty trucks.

But the real question is whether bidders will value a restored working truck the same way they value a low-mileage original pickup.

We'll find out when this black squarebody crosses the block at GAA Classic Cars in Greensboro, North Carolina, this November.
